We often try to do a lot for God—without him. Relaxed is a call to let go of spiritual performance, reject our cultural tendency to live under pressure, and find freedom to walk with God and toward God, one gentle step at a time.

Jesus was never in a hurry to be anywhere other than where he was, trusting and obeying his Father. Could the same be said of us? We long to know peace, purpose, and contentment, but life’s stresses, the world’s discouragements, and our own striving for growth get in the way.

In Relaxed, pastor and teacher Megan Fate Marshman explores what it means to set aside our addiction to trying to figure everything out and relish a slower, compelling, powerful, and relaxed life with God. As Megan takes us word by word through Proverbs 3:5-6, she helps us discover:

* The joy of a continual, intimate relationship with God
* What God calls us to do with the burden of shame and guilt
* What it looks like to be relaxed in the midst of grief, financial stress, mistakes, and fatigue

The freedom and forgiveness of being found “in Christ”
How to incorporate rhythms of walking with God into our everyday routines
God never intended for us to be in control. As we lean away from our own understanding and into an intentionally relaxed spiritual life, we join Jesus in trusting a God who knows what he is doing–and isn’t worried about a thing.

>> About the Book Club:
This is a highly participatory, discussion-based book club, so conversation will be a valued part of our time together. However, we invite everyone to share at whatever level feels comfortable for you as we read, listen, and learn together.

If you are able, we also ask that you keep your camera on during our Zoom sessions. In our experience, seeing one another’s faces helps foster a welcoming and safe space where conversation can flow and friendships can grow.

Our book is divided into four distinct parts, and we will work through them over our four weeks together. Here’s what our reading plan looks like:

Week 1 – 2 chapters
Week 2 – 3 chapters
Week 3 – 6 chapters
Week 4 – 1 chapter

Week 3 will include a heavier reading load, but Week 4 will give us space to slow down, reflect on the book as a whole, and discuss what we’ve learned together.

You are welcome to begin reading at any time. When you register for the Book Club, you will receive three simple reflection questions to guide your reading. Our hope is that this will help you remember and reflect on what God may be speaking to your heart as you read, and make it a bit easier for you to share.

>> Book Purchase Options:
We encourage you to purchase your book directly if you are able. It is available on Amazon here, as well as through other retailers with a simple online search.

If purchasing a copy on your own is a challenge for any reason, please don’t worry, we are happy to help. We will be ordering a limited number of copies through the church. If you would like us to purchase one for you, just indicate that when you register.

We will distribute books and collect payment by June 28. Please note that our last book order will be placed on Tuesday, June 23, so plan to register before that date.

If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Pastor Angela Reiss.
